Originally, this blog charted the journey of Ancho and Lefty from Bath County, Kentucky to Costa Rica in their trusty 1993 Toyota Pick-Up Truck lovingly known as Bessie. Ancho has returned to the USA to work and Lefty remains in Costa Rica finishing up her dissertation fieldwork. Soon, she will reunite with Ancho, who in her absence from home has taken up with seven women- Lefty's cat, Poe Poe Kitty, and six Red Star Hens.
Ripe coffee can be beautiful, but you get tired of picking it, I have to admit. When it's really ripe and there have been recent rains, it likes to just sort of pop off the plant as soon as you move to a new plant to pick. Then you have to bend over and pick it up off the ground, which is difficult when you are also wearing a big basket around your waist. Things I never knew before.

Ancho and Lefty are not registered trademarks. "Ancho" refers to a type of chili. "Lefty" does not refer to a proclivity to write with one hand or the other. Ancho remodels. Lefty anthropologizes.
